"Italian food made by Mexicans ain't that special." - Great words by Paulie from the movie Rocky Balboa. With outdoor seating, this is a nice place to stop for lunch on a sunny day. However, I probably wouldn't stop here for dinner. The food was good, but nothing special. Worth checking out for lunch if you're in the area.

My friend and stumbled upon Mezzogiorno during my last trip to NYC as I was wrapping up my main stream store shopping in SOHO. Needing to replenish my stamina and power up for the thrift store shopping, my friend and I looked at the menu and agreed that it seemed like a decent place. I was sold on the menu and he was sold on the fact that it was 2009 Michelan recommended (to this day I have no idea what that means). I ordered Black linguini with arrabiata sauce and my friend ordered a funghi pizza. I'll be honest, the pasta was gummy, but I was unsure if that was the consistency of black linguini or if it was overcooked. The sauce on my pasta was way too bland and really need a little something extra. I didn't try my friend's pizza, but by the looks of it, it seemed ok - although I would much prefer a huge NY slice from the vendors around the corner. Honestly, the highlight of my experience here wasn't so much the food or the service, but more so the outdoor seating at the corner of the street where I could people watch. The corner the restaurant is on is so busy with locals that I loved seeing all the New Yorkers walking by in their own element. Honestly 2 stars for food, 3 stars for people watching. Enough said.

We stopped here after a quick dinner after work before hitting the train to cross the river. Sitting outside with my squid-ink pasta and a glass of wine was just what the doctor ordered. Decent pasta, good service, great location.

popped in for a lunch with a gal pal for restaurant week. i started with the tuna carpaccio which was nice and fine, but didn't blow my mind. the app was a healthy portion though. had the black linguine as my entree and it was filling and tasty. my fav of the prix fixe. i had the affagato to end the meal. i was properly stuffed by then so couldn't thoroughly enjoy the sweet to my savory.

Met a friend for dinner last night at what was supposed to be The Dutch, after my puppy toting friend had called there earlier in the day and was told there was outside seating by the hostess, when in fact, there was not. Totally pissed and annoyed but easily over it after yelping outdoor seating in current location, and coming up with this place. Walking up was super cute and inviting, we peeped the menu outside and decided to give it a go. First things first, the wines by the glass are like $8-10 a piece (sold) and a HUGE pour (doubly sold). We each had the Sangiovese and it was very tasty and more than worth the $8. We split the tomato, mozz, basil salad and it was very good with ripe tomatoes and delicious fresh buffalo mozzarella. I am a huge sucker for that salad, I'd eat it everyday if I could. We each then had the grigliata mista di mare al salmoriglio, after much deliberation over what to get. It was really tasty, the seafood all fresh and the grilled flavor came through albeit not too strongly, while the lemon, olive oil and parsley sauce was extremely flavorful and balanced it all well. The salmon and the shrimp were the two standouts of the dish, the squid a bit chewy. Our only gripe is that it came with no side, just a plate of the grilled seafood and we would have appreciated a veggie or something, but it was a good portion on its own. After dinner we split the creme brulee and it was just run of the mill, a little cold and nothing memorable. All in all a cute little place with good food and attentive staff. Forgot to mention they brought water out for the pup as soon as we sat! Would definitely come back here again.

6 of us were able to walk in on a Friday evening, which worried me a little, but those fears were largely unfounded. Had some delicious marinara pizzas to start, nice crust and sauce--followed by HEAVENLY fiocchetti stuffed with pear and some sort of cheese--these were basically dripping in butter, (I could have eaten these all night), then had the black linguine in spicy tomato sauce which I haven't stopped thinking about all week. Prices were very reasonable for the high quality food--service was a bit slow and not as familiar with the wine list as you might like/expect, but I am definitely going to return again and again.

3.5 stars. Mezzogiorno provided a warm refuge on a cold and rainy night. When I arrived for dinner at 7pm, the restaurant was pretty empty. I decided to have a glass of wine at the bar while waiting for a friend (generous pour btw). My friend arrived and we were seated at a cozy table in the corner near a window. Solid pastas (I had a ravioli special, my friend had vodka penne). Usually I have more to say about food, but here it was good. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing really outstanding either to comment on. Service was warm and welcoming - we were not rushed at all even though we were there almost 3 hours! This is a great place to sit and have a glass or two (or three!) of wine and catch up with a friend. Would definitely return if I was in the area.

Went here with my girlfriend during restaurant week and really enjoyed it. Atmosphere and decor are a little quirky, but the food and service were top-notch. We had the calamari and salami appetizers, the cheese and pear pasta and mini veal milanese as mains, and the chocolate cake and some kind of custard covered fruit dish for desserts. Everything was excellent and flavorful, and the best part was the portion sizes; you can finish everything and not be too full. They also give you a complimentary after-dinner wine which was very good. Will definitely go here again.

I haven't been to this place since I had a full head of hair. And I'm happy to say, it's actually gotten better. If you're in Soho and you feel like Italian but don't want anything too heavy, this is the place. For lunch, try the Costa Smeralda. It's grilled shrimp and crab meat over a bed of arugula and romaine lettuce, drizzled with some oil and vinegar. Doesn't sound like much, but it'll bring back great memories of Amalfi, if you've ever been to Amalfi.

Me and my mother went here when we were visiting from Chicago, I came across Mezzogiorno from looking on here for gluten-free options. Their options for gluten-free food was pretty decent and Mmmmmmm! Delicious! Will try again!

Dedicated service and an upscale, yet casual, atmosphere breathe life into this otherwise ordinary Italian restaurant. The prices are also very affordable. As my friend and I sat to enjoy a nice dinner in the beautiful dining area, we were politely asked if we wanted to check our coats. The waiters and all service people were very accommodating throughout the meal. They provided us with fresh, delicious Italian bread which was moist inside and covered with a crisp crust. The basket was also filled with long, crisp breadsticks...a yummy start. As an entree my friend and I each ordered a seafood mixed grill, which contained an oddly thin piece of salmon, calamari, scallops, and shrimp. The plate also included a sauce of garlic, oil, and Italian spices. The salmon and shrimp were pretty flavorful. The calamari and scallops had more flavor and were pretty decent. I saw some of the pasta dishes and the thin crust pizza, which all looked much better. I know that I ordered more of a bland dish, but the seafood quality was not great either. I would not be opposed to going back here, but I think there are better places to try.

Great place to have Italian after shopping in SoHo. The pizza was excellent, pasta was very tasteful, salad was very fresh and had a great choice of wine.

We've been to Mezzogiorno for about 3 times already and its always in one of our choices if were in the SOHO area. Food is really good here and the prices aren't' as exuberant as most SOHO restaurants. The place is also big enough for walk-ins. One reservation though is that the wait staff aren't as welcoming as I would like. You're left looking over your shoulder trying to get your waiters attention. P.S. The crab-pasta is recommended.

This is a nice neighborhood place for a simple "no frills' Italian meal. We found it on "urban spoon" while walking through SOHO. While I was there I didn't notice a Zagat review in the window, that's because they get a 20 (I typically avoid places below 22). Looking back at my experience there, the Zagat review was right on. Food was good enough but we are not rushing back.

so-so. not bad, but not incredibly memorable. i had the calamari appetizer - it was good but nothing special (not the typical fried calamari you are used to). pretty small, but it IS an appetizer. friends had 2 diff pasta dishes that looked good. food not bad, but this would not be a destination restaurant.

All of the pasta noodles are homemade. The spicy crab pasta is delicate , with the right balance of spice, crab, a touch of tomato with the right amount of garlic and oil. Its a subtle dish that is very flavorful and well executed. Its something that is very easy to overdo and foul up; but it is always excellent here. This dish pretty much sums up everything i have eaten here from the bread, to the soup to the coffee and deserts. For me, this is what italian food should taste like. Italian food is not about overpowering flavors. It is about using a few fresh ingredients of high quality, preparing them correctly and making them sing. Refined Italian cooking is deceptively difficult. I still have yet to have a better pasta dish for ANY price in this city. The atmosphere is ok, as is the service, that is not 5 stars, but the food for me is every time.

3.5 Stars. I was visiting NY with my 7 year old son, saw a family with a baby eating happily outside and thought, "this reminds me of home", so I chose it above the other 8 places on the street. I was glad I did. My son ordered the special, mussels with white wine and garlic pasta. It was hands down awesome. He named it the "best pasta he had ever eaten" and he did eat almost all of it!! I ordered the Spaghetti Principe-Pasta with veal, zucchini, and sage. Good, but I found myself eating much of my sons dish. The food was simple, but good. I would have given a full 4 stars, but wine list was lacking and our server was totally indifferent, although the busboy and the other servers we dealt with were exceedingly nice.

I love this place. The food is good and during the summer it's a great place to grab a seat outside and people watch. Just about everything is good, but the coffee is just great. They have a special machine there that makes excellent cappuccino and espresso. Just a warning that they don't take Visa or Mastercard - just American Express and cash

sitting outside here is wonderful...great street and ambiance... i had the eggplant croquettes with salad and goat cheese -- croquettes were great but it was a little sparse on the goat cheese. then i had the lasagna which was delicious! i would go back here... also, they give you really yummy little cookies with your check, which is a nice perk!!

I excitedly ordered one of their specialty pastas (Fiocchetti Ai Tre Formaggi E Pera- small pasta pouches filled with cheese and pear) and was informed by the waiter that they had run out. Since I was vegetarian, he offered to make a vegetarian pasta "just for me" with a variety of vegetables. I agreed and asked for a red sauce as well. The pasta I recieved was just a basic pasta in butter and oil with boiled vegetables (no red sauce). As I love pasta, it tasted fine, so I did not complain... but I could have made it at home. On top of that, I was charged the $17 price of their specialty pasta, which did not at all compare to the basic dish I had recieved. Overall, I was dissappointed with my experience, but I would go back and give them another try- great outdoor dining spot, fresh food, and decent service (excluding the above).

We love this place and eat here every time we visit New York. Great place to sit and recover after an afternoon of shopping. For appetizers, I cannot get past the proscuitto with caramelized pear. I've never tried anything else - it's just so good. From that point in the menu I've tried the pastas, the pizzas, and the fish - all expertly prepared with stellar ingredients. The service is polished and the wait staff allows you to linger, best done over the blood orange sorbet which is a gorgeous color and easily enough for two. (And we've always paid with a credit card, I'm sure so I dont know why anyone would have trouble with that.)

Excellent, crispy, wood-oven pizza and Tiramasu the way it's supposed to be. Well anyway, that's what I ate and I was too busy eating to notice what anyone else had. I must've been terrible company cause I was hungry, I missed breakfast and I was grumpy. After my meal though I was happy and content... I was probably still lousy company, but that's not Mezzogiorno's fault.

My favorite Italian restaurant on the west side. Great place to sit and have lunch especially during the summer days. Atmosphere is nice the tables up Front are always my favorite. The Food - excellent. My favorite is the squid ink pasta .. its delicious. The Pastas are always fresh, I always try to get one of the specials. The food wins that 4th star from me, the quality of the ingredients are always top-notch. The place is overall very cosy and not pretentious. We come here casually and we come here for special occasions. We spent New Years one year for dinner and drinks and had a fantastic time.

A decent spot for Italian food. The service is friendly and the location is great. Prices aren't too bad ($14-$18 for pasta dishes) for Soho.

I honestly do not know where to begin. This would be my 7th time coming to Mezzogiorno and another home run was hit. The pizza is outstanding, penne is to die for and the steak was top notch. There is a reason why my friends and I continuously return to this little piece of heaven and that is because you will not find a better restaurant in SOHO. The service is phenominal and everyone there gives off a very warm and carrying feeling as if you're among a family. Now besides the food and the service there must be somthing else to this place... And there is the price that you pay for the food that you get is a joke, you will not find a better deal in all of manhattan. Last but not least you may never know when you will turn your head at the restaurant and see Ricky Martin or Mike Piazza as I have. If you haven't been there yet you must go, and for those that do not like it, it's pretty ridiculous not to. One of my favorite places, will visit again. P.S. Owners and Managment are fabulous

We went there for Valentine's dinner. They had a prix fix menu, which I thought should streamline operations in the kitchen and result in better than usual food. Not so! Everything but the food was ok. The food - at the lower end of the mediocre spectrum and over-priced beyond belief! We paid just under $200 for a meal for 2 with 3 glasses of wine between us, which is reasonable for a good meal but not the crap we were served. My appetizer - warm seafood salad was inedible with chunks of very dry fish and over cooked shrimp; my entree - lobster and ricotta ravioli was tasteless and dry; my boyfriend's entree - lamb chops was very mediocre (we cook better lamb chops at home for less than 1/3 the price). The only dish that was actually good was his appetizer - buffalo mozzarella with prosciutto which clearly required no cooking. The chocolate soufflé was at the table within 5 minutes of ordering it (shouldn't they bake it just before serving?) and was dry and completely inedible. You wouldn't know it was chocolate if you ate it with your eyes closed.

I have been a happy customer since 2007. Lasagna bolognese, Margherita and proscuitto cotto pizza, mezzogiorno salad, Milanesine con insalata di campo are a few of my favorite dishes paired with the best Chianti selection in the city. The Tiramisu is to die for. I would not be suprised if they import it from Siena, Italy. Ambiance feels comfortable and authentic. The servers are always wonderful and a delight to talk to.

I came here this afternoon with a few friends to grab lunch as a going back-to-school unofficial end of summer gathering. We chose to sit inside despite the beautiful day that it was today and we were greeted by a courteous waiter. For starters, we settled for the vegetable croquettes with the goat cheese and field salad, chickpea and avocado salad with lemon juice, mint and celery, tuna slices with orange slices and the sautéed baby artichokes with pistachio and grana Padano cheese. All the appetizers were delicious and were a great and light way to start off with. All this came with a complementary side of bread sticks and bread with olive oil. Not bad. As for the entrées, 3 of my friends ordered pasta dishes, while I had the 4 cheese pizza. The small pasta pouches that my friend ordered came with sliced pears on the side with cheese and a light buttery sauce. It somewhat resembled a wonton. The 4 cheese pizza that I ordered was a thin crusted pizza topped with (hence the name) 4 different types of cheeses. It would've been better if the pizza came with tomato sauce though. The taste was comparable to a Artichoke slice pizza. For dessert, I went with the Yelp user's suggestions and ordered the tiramisu cake. My friends had the creme brûlée, chocolate and cheesecakes respectively. The chocolate and cheesecakes came with a side of ice cream and raspberries. My tiramisu cake wasn't bad, it complemented the pizza well. I enjoyed it. Overall, I somewhat enjoyed my experience here. I had to take a star off for the wait time for the dishes to arrive when we were practically the only party dining, and another star off for the saltiness of the dishes. Would I come back? I'll take my chances.

I came to this restaurant for the fiocchetti with cheese and pear. It was my favorite meal from Italy. The dish was so delicious at Mezzogiorno, I actually ordered a second plate! My spouse ordered the seafood risotto and also loved it. I hear they have great pizza here, however, to go here, and not order the fiocchetti is a tragedy worthy of an opera!

I think it's amazing when a restaurant can keep the same integrity and quality of food and service every time you visit. The last time I reviewed mezzogiorno I believe we ordered the same foods: a calamari salad, a shrimp and bean salad, margarita pizza with hot oil, black linguini with shrimp and my lamb chops with broccoli and potatoes (some of these items are not on the menu anymore, just dishes his parents have been having for years). Of course a nice bottle of wine to wash it down equally helped and then the famous tiramisu.. It was exactly the same as the last time I had it and the time before when I reviewed it and the last 25 years my fiancé's parents have been coming here. It helps when you have the same great people wiring there providing wonderful and personalized service and the same man making the great pizzas. Looking forward to our next visit! :)

Some of the best pizza I've ever had. Highly recommend the prosciutto cotto (cooked prosciutto) pizza - it's totally amazing. I'd recommend one pizza per person because it's 4 thin slices. I split one with someone and definitely ended up wishing I'd had my own (at most places I eat 2 slices of pizza). Also, we didn't even have to wait for a table for 6 of us at 9pm on a Friday night because this place is pretty large.

I stopped by here on Thursday night with a party of four adults and one toddler. To our surprise we were seated immediately. It was our first time visiting the Little Italy area. The staff were all kind and helpful. We shared the Lasagna Bolognese, Spaghetti and the Minestrone with vegetables. The Lasagna Bolognese was my favorite and my moms favorite was the Minestrone. I will be bring my boyfriend to this restaurant on the next trip:)

I've been here twice now and I feel underwhelmed about my experiences here. The food is decent. Not great, but fine. The main waiter who served us was nice, if a bit strange, but the man and woman who cleared the table/filled the water glasses, etc. seemed to be mocking us and other guests, which was really rude... The cookies served after dinner are a nice touch, but I won't be back. Not the worst place, but far from the best, in an area that has lots of great Italian food nearby.

Not really worth the trip. I would have given it 2 1/2 stars if I could. Nothing really good here, just ok. Sautéed artichokes not special. Prosciutto (very good) and melon ( not good). Pasta with porcini mushrooms tasteless but not memorable. Pasta with basil pesto, greens beans and potato, ok but not more than that. Cookies on the house, so dry I started choking. Prosecco for $11 just ok.

My parents have been going here for over 25 years and apparently it's just as amazing as always. Every single time that I am here I have to get a margherita pizza. Yes my family loves a ton of things here and I would love to try more things but I cant get past the best brick oven pizza in NY. Seriously... My gf loves the lamb chops and my family loves all the seafood dishes. The waiters are incredibly nice and the ambience is quite enjoyable. Definitely a good date spot or a casual lunch. You have to try the pizza if you are a pizza person. I know my pizza and this is seriously the best fresh brick oven pizza in NY!

Cute place! Great interiors and outdoor seating. Sat outside with my friend and we ordered appetizers, pizza, pasta and creme brulee for desert. Solid, decent place with great service. The food isn't the best you will ever have but it is good. The service is a little better than most places. Prices are fair oven local and restaurant style. I had a steak dish which was cooked as requested. Have I had better? Yes. But it hit the spot so I can't complain. I do like that it was served with greens rather than a bunch of heavy sides. I had an appie involving fresh mozzarella though that was quite good and very decadent. My date was happy with his menu choices and we both liked the outside table seats for people watching on a Spring Saturday night.

Stopped by Mezzogiorno on a Saturday afternoon after taking one of my friends to have laser surgery. It was about 4pm when we arrived and it was empty so I was a bit skeptical about the food but I was surprised, the food was delicious and the place started to fill up shortly after we ordered appetizers. To start the three of us shared the Tropicale salad (frisée, avocado, hearts of palm, tomato, and fresh parmigiano) and the Piccante Pizza (spicy sausage, tomato sauce, mozzarella) which was thin and crispy. I was mad dog hungry and did't feel this would be enough to start but it was. For entrees one of my friends had the rigatoni with eggplant and both my other friend and I ordered the lasagna bolognese. Everything was piping hot so we knew it was made to order. The food was definitely authentic Italian cuisine made from standard Italian recipes. The service needs some improvement. I am not sure if the young lady servicing us was new but she did not know the proper steps in waiting. We were happy there was another waiter who jumped in when she dropped the ball. Food: Fresh with a homemade quality to it Service: The service left a little to be desired. Needs improvement Atmosphere: Could use an update but don't let this discourage you from dining

I am writing such a positive review because of how much I enjoyed the experience (more so than on a totally objective basis). This is not a particularly amazing Italian place relatively for nyc, but it is good. I came here today because the weather is nice and it gets a lot of sunlight if you are sitting inside. My spicy black linguine with shrimp and calamari was very enjoyable. Although the linguine was softer than I like and the calamari was way overcooked, the sauce was fantastic. If you like a hearty, tomato-y red sauce, you will love it. My gf had the boar pappardelle. Again the sauce (flavor) was fantastic but meat was a bit overcooked. I am a sauce guy so I absolutely loved the place. I will come back. Also, service was good. Waiters were nice and not annoying in any way.

Mezzogiono is a long standing neighborhood favorite in SoHo. Been there many times. Giving them 5 stars based on the experience we had today. Late Saturday lunch. We had grilled eggplant on grilled polenta cakes and a lovely frisée salad with apples and basalmico photos attached. Entrees were Risotto with scallops and a light red sauce and Fusilli with sausage and Fennel. All very tasty. The server has been there 22 years. The place is comfortable and friendly. Enjoyed a lovely fruity herbal while called Grillo as well. We'll be back to this fave again. You should give Mezzogiorno a try!

I came here today for the first time for a business lunch, and it was a pleasant place. A lot of places around the neighborhood get overfilled and hectic between noon and 2, while this place had a relaxed vibe. I had the gnocchi and shared a calamari appetizer. Both were very good and a little spicier than I expected -- in a good way -- which was a pleasant surprise given that gnocchi and calamari can be bland if you're not careful. I can't say I've eaten a lot of calamari that was not fried, but of all the unfried calamari I have had, this was the best. The other two people at the lunch ordered personal pizzas that they seemed to enjoy. It was nice of the waiter to point out that the marinara pizza had no cheese. We all got the idea that customers had been unhappy with that before. He did a good job of covering all the bases. The only negative part of the experience was the fact that a homeless man was able to approach within a foot of us from outside and ask for money in a way we weren't really able to ignore, sitting at a table by a large open window. I guess there's not much the restaurant could do about that, except maybe have smaller windows. At least he was funny, though. He was soliciting a donation on behalf of the "United Negro Pastrami Sandwich Fund."

Decent pastas. Friendly staff. Nothing to write home about but nothing really to complain about either. Lots of space. A little on the pricey side for pasta but not exorbitant. We ordered 3 different types of pastas and they were all tasty and around $19.

Loved the ambiance and the servers. My gnocchi was perfect--tasted great, generous portion, and not too expensive. Matt's salmon and spinach side were delicious. Too few roasted potatoes to tell if they were good. The bread was not good but the bread sticks were tasty with the soft butter that was served alongside. Matt's iced tea was slightly sweet, but I think it was herbal, no sweetener. My glass of red wine was really delicious--I'm not a huge fan of Italian. I think it was a Dolcetto, something like that. We were not tempted by anything on the dessert menu. There are a couple of outdoor table which would have been fun on a warmer night. Plenty of people walking around in SoHo, so people watching was good. Not a remarkable restaurant but I would visit again.

We sat outside on a nice end-of-a-summer night and had our wine and Italian food. I went for a lasagna and my BF got a risotto with asparagus. Risotto was a bit of disappointment because I work at the risotto place myself and ours are better. No offense. Lasagna was good. Tiramisu and limoncello at the end were nice. Service was attentive. Still good experience overall

The food is....ummmm....good, almost I wanna say.... First though... THIS PLACE IS GREAT (!) FOR MANNERLY CHILDREN ONLY*** ::inhale:: If your children have no clue of how to behave (let alone in public), are rude, and have not been trained them to sit the heck DOWN, be polite, and to speak quietly or eat silently (and NOT to play electronic games [fareal?!?!?] at the table), then please...leave your ill-mannered, raggamuffins aka beastly offspring at HOME. This is a quiet venue. Thankfully, the children dining here simultaneously were delightful! :D ::Exhale:: ::woosah:: FOOD: Daily Special: In English, it's the pappardelle in boar raguot. The noodles tasted fresh, but were just okay. (I love fresh pasta, FYI) The boar ragu was also okay. Very fillling, but the flavor was a bit lacking #kanyeshrug Marinara Pizza - It was good. I guess it's more of a classical Italian style, so it's extremely thin, but the flavors are all present. As I am allergic to dairy, it's great to have an offering which naturally comes without cheese. (Hooray, dairy free!) The marinara flavors were well-blended, the fresh garlic and fresh basil were strong but not overpowering. It was definitely very good, but nothing to sing home about. I wouldn't order it as an entree, as one might be disappointed. It's good as an appetizer/tapas of sorts. Mojito - 'twas alright. Meh. Sodas - GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Prettttty sure they mix them with MOP water. smh! ------ AMBIENCE: Great! I love this place solely for it's casually elegant ambience. This is what sets the place apart. The atmosphere gets 5 stars, as it is casual and comfortable, yet soft and refined. It's just the perfect place to lounge on a Sunday and discuss life lol. SERVICE: Fast and attentive. Wonderful. DECOR: Despite the Italian name, it felt like blend of downtown, modern art and classical country French stylings. Wouldn't change a thing :)

This weekend we had a three-generation birthday dinner for my husband at Mezzogiorno. Everyone felt happy. We all loved our dinner and felt comfortable enough to relax into a free-for-all joke-telling contest. Our family, which loves all things Italian, has been making the trip from Brooklyn Heights to Soho for unpretentious, authentic food, once or twice a month since the restaurant opened in 1987. Portions are perfect for a two or three-course meal; outdoor seating is great for breezes and people watching. The crowd inside is also fun to look at as many attractive Italians seem to find their way to Spring and Sullivan Streets. Some of our family favorites are: anything with mozzarella, the salad with artichokes, pistachios and Parmesan, squid ink pasta with spicy sauce, mushroom ravioli, tagliata (sliced steak) and any o their wood fire grilled fish: orate, bronzino, and salmon (available even though it is rarely on the menu). The fish dishes all come with outstanding sides of roasted potatoes and sautéed spinach. A favorite dessert is affogatto al caffe, vanilla ice cream drowning in espresso. Their tiramisu is also exceptional. And to go back to the beginning of the meal--the bread, and the thin breadsticks, are delicious ...and deadly. The wine list is also wonderful!

Stopped in here for a nice lunch during restaurant week. The specials looked so good that my entire table skipped the prix-fix and ordered specials. I had the Fettuccine con porcini e tartufo estivo (fettuccini with porcini mushroom ragout and black summer truffles, $21). Homemade fettuccine pasta was good, sauce was good and light, and the black summer truffles were not over powering. A friend had the Antipasto special, Gamberi e zucchini alla griglia (grilled shrimp and zucchini dressed with fresh herbs and olive oil, $14), the shrimp were about the size of your thumb from the tip to the joint, butterflied and grilled to perfection. Really outstanding, I would order shrimp here any time. Service was very good. Saw the pizza at the next table and want to try that next time.

Excellent Sangiovese by the glass. $9 Sautéed Calamari appetizer was delicious and light featuring avocados! $15 GREAT pasta with crab meat! SUPER delicious and a bit spicy. $19 Service was fantastic.

The place is great for people watching. I saw lots of beautiful models walking by. The pasta was horrible. Worse than a gum. It's a total tourist trap. I don't understand how they can open so bad restaurants. In the same block there are similar places with hostess in the corners of the street hunting like vultures for clueless and starving tourists in Soho. The only good place around is the Aquagrill.

What a quaint and cozy restaurant, pleasantly surprised! I eat a gluten and dairy diet which they catered to without hesitation, even their menu states to disclose allergies to the wait staff. For a Saturday evening, service was very attentive, we sat down as soon as we arrived by a patio window, which happened to open out to the sidewalk. I ate a delicious seafood salad with a delicious homemade lemon vinaigrette dressing and my girlfriend ordered mushroom ravioli, which she enjoyed. Portions were female friendly and prices were very reasonable, all in all the environment was very nice and food was delicious!

My wife is from Naples and an excellent cook. I'm from Milan, and not bad myself. So we don't often frequent Italian restaurants as we're often disappointed. But whenever we're downtown, there's only one place we're excited to go. Mezzogiorno is consistently excellent. Pizza, pasta, meat, fish - it's all superb! Perhaps it's because the owner is ever on the premises, or that the pizzaolo has been there for 20 years, or that the staff is largely Italian. But they're proud of what they serve, and they serve it very well. The food is exquisite, but that's clear the moment you eat one of their homemade breadsticks. And it gets better with every bite, every plate.

Went there today.. Great staff and customer service but the food was not good.. I had the lasagna bolognese and it was ummm ok at best.. I had the pudding for dessert the fruit was really sour and the pudding was like melted ice cream.. I'm not going back but Greta place to get a drink and watch people walk by

Got the home made ravioli filled with porcini mushrooms and ricotta cheese topped with fresh black truffles for lunch. PERFECT meal for the sub zero weather here in New York. The quantity might look like it's less on the plate...but all that cheesy gooey rich yummy filling in fresh cooked ravioli will fill your tummy pretty fast. They are offering an interesting Restaurant week lunch and dinner menu right now too :) The complimentary cookies are a nice treat :)

Impeccable service, thirty years of Soho history in this place and the walls are filled with local art- perfect portions and the famous Costa Smeralda salad is awesome. Unbelievably delicious lentil soup and brick oven pizza. Something great for everyone here! An authentic Italian family restaurant, I feel very at home here!

  • Norry H.

Mezzogiorno's authentic Italian cooking satisfied my palate with ravioli stuffed with porcini and ricotta topped with slices of black truffle, mini veal Milanese with arugula and tomatoes, and the lasagna with béchamel sauce (instead of ricotta). I would give five stars if all three dishes were seasoned with a little bit more salt. Still much above average. The price is reasonable. And they deliver in SoHo for free.

In NYC all the time. On New Years Eve day, we venture to SoHo, walk around, shop and have fun... we always would get caught up in the "junky italian" places, but this year we ventured west of Mulberry. Mezzogiorno lived up to the reviews and we had a GREAT meal. We were able to modify some dishes to our tastes, no attitude, in fact super friendly. I had paparedelle with wild boar ragu, my wife had the eggplant with ricotta cheese red, and my son had an alfredo sauce.. pasta was great, fresh and the wine was perfect... we were there between lunch and dinner on a day that was slow...not sure how it is when busy, but will def head back!

Great service, staff is friendly but I couldn't find one Italian looking person working there. I would assume same in kitchen. anyhow... Ordered tuna carpaccio, crabmeat pasta & bow tie w salmon tonight..everything was very fresh and yummy. They are on savored for 30% on occasional nights so with the 30% off , I would def go back and try other dishes.

This was one of the restaurants that I found randomly on Yelp, we stayed near midtown but with subways being so easy to use we decided to venture out a bit and try something new. One point to make, we went on a Sunday in which restaurant week had just started but it was pretty empty. The place is sort of small, maybe seats about 50-60 people max. There were maybe three tables with clients. Anyhow, we started off with splitting the mixed grilled vegetables with olive oil, they had a pretty good assortment. Girlfriend had the minestrone, wasnt the very best she had but she liked it more than most. It seemed to be heartier blend. I had the Grigliata mista di mare al salmoriglio and the girlfriend had Tagliolini allo zafferano con sugo piccante di granchio . The seafood selection was great, they gave you mighty hearty portions and the sauce that came with it was great! My gf's pasta with the spicy crab was fantastic! The pasta sauce was distinctive yet carried didn't have that heavy feel to it. The crab was real crab meat and not that imitation stuff, they gave you a very generous portion of crab within the pasta. For desert we had the creme brulee and some ice cream. We don't usually have desert but with the meal being so delicious we thought we might as well. Service was very attentive and friendly. Best thing about this meal, with two drinks and the rest of the above it only came to be about $130 with tip, a friggin' bargain in NY! Love this place, have already recommended this to someone who will be going to NY next month, great place!

I would not bother with anything other than pizza here - every time I've come through here anyone who got something other than pizza has been duly disappointed, but the pizza is indeed very good, and much better than a lot of places more hyped and lauded. They've been here shy of forever in NYC terms. I'd MUCH rather sit down to a little brick oven pie from here than Johns - call me insane if you must.

Nice place with attentive staff and the food was about average. They have wood fired oven pizzas which I'd like to try next time. The calamari appetizer was awesome but the entrees ... not such much. I recommend this place if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a decent meal.

Very nice and welcoming place. The host was very quick to getting my party seated. Mesho, another staff member was very helpful and sweet. His recommendation on red wine was superb. The bar tender was in high spirits and our overall first time experience at Mezzogiorno was excellent, mainly cause of the terrific staff. Thank you for your great service and the delicious Lembrusko.

I live in the neighborhood so this is usually in the rotation. The food is great, especially the pastas. The grilled seafood platter is also a standout. I would probalby come here more if the vibe was a little more fun. Music/crowd is usually very quiet and they could use some happy hour deals or a fun bartender to spice things up. The bar is usually dead....maybe the lights are too bright. I'll still come here ocasionally for the food though. Definitely worth a shot for some good tuscan food.

This place is fabulous! I would highly recommend going here for dinner. My friends & I went for restaurant week & it did not disappoint. It's a great atmosphere, but I definitely recommend sitting outside. The service was excellent - our waiter was so nice & attentive. The restaurant menu was great - a good variety of different types of dishes. Food was delicious!

Having lived and worked over here for sooo many years IDK WHY I never ate here before. I ate every where else except here. Well Finally I went here last night for a friends birthday. Great fresh bread and bread sticks and Olives yummmy Starters: Special with broccoli rabe, Salad with crab meat and Mozz/tomato/basil (which the server said we didn't order which ended up being just fine) Main: Two of us had the lamb, one had pasta, and another had the Cornish hen Lamb was a little fatty and the menu said it game with fingerling potatoes (which it just had regular potatoes), But it was still delish. Dessert: For our friends birthday I had them bring a tiramisu with a candle in it (he hated us for it) Also got ice cream with espresso and creme brulee (again the server didn't hear me order this but I eventually got it) Everything is in Italian like most authentic restaurants, servers also spoke Italian, all in all not bad as far as communicating. he understood my allergy and made sure everything was Gluten free since I have Celiacs. They were very attentive overall. I will definitely come back here. I used Savored to book ($10 fee) And we got 30% off food and drinks so our tab was $195 we also all had 2 drinks each and a bottle of wine, we tipped 25% I would of given them 5 stars it we didn't have a few minor issues but still amazing.

The first time I dated a girl nearly twice my age -- not that this happens much (I swear to god) -- we decided to do a little out door brunch at this cute little place in Soho. Well, 'little' isn't a great choice of word since they had enough outdoor seating to keep the line here pretty short. I hate to be negative, but the food here was definitely not worth the price. Portions were kind of small, and quality wasn't exactly M&M's melting in your mouth, if you know what I mean. Nonetheless, it *is* in great location, and on a nice day, it's one of those places that will make you super jealous of the people lounging outside.

  • Sascha M.

Solid italian spot in the village. Grabbed a weeknight dinner here with the bestie. Wish it was nice enough for outdoor seating, but it wasn't. This place was pretty empty and there was one server. Started off with some refreshing pinot grigio. We then split the four cheese pizza which was amazingly delish. I had the pasta pouches with cheese and pear which were really good, just wished the portion size was bigger, I ended up licking my plate clean. My friend had the spicy clam pasta, I think. If you aren't in a rush and are in the neighborhood, a solid spot to check out to satisfy your pasta/pizza craving.

Let me preface this review with the statement of fact that I neither chose to eat here nor wanted to eat here after reading the other Yelp reviews. Especially after walking here I noticed Blue Ribbon was on my way... But when my out of town family member told me she and her mother were meeting her friend at this place for dinner, I had no choice but to accept since I wanted to see her! I remembered reading a review that said there was not one Italian person on staff.. and I must agree. The staff was a veritable composite of the United Nations. I am not hating on the multicultural atmosphere... trust me. But I think that this was one of the few indicators that my Italian meal was potentially doomed. I ordered an appetizer of artichoke and zucchini flowers. They were lightly fried. I would have appreciated if they had stuffed the flowers with cheese and the artichokes or something.. It was just mediocre. One of the guests ordered soup. She wanted really a broth as she wasn't feeling well. The two soup choices were a puree of leaks... and a minestrone. She got the minestrone which had a lot of vegetables and looked hearty. But she did not want that many vegetables. When she asked the waiter to take it back and maybe scoop some vegetables out for her, he said NO... and then told her if she wanted just a broth she could have bought it at the bodega down the street... because they make their soup FRESH. That's fine and dandy... but it wasn't that hard to accommodate this old lady's request! He didn't have to be a dick about it. As for the small pasta pouches filled with cheese and pear.... doesn't anyone else think these taste like they were made by Buitoni? I was not impressed. Finally... coup de grâce. Dessert. Someone ordered the hazelnut cake... wasn't HORRIBLE... But do not, and I repeat.. DO NOT... ever. order. the crème brûlée. I took my spoon to it to crack the caramel.... but there was none. The spoon just went, "Donk..." a few times onto the bottom of the ramekin. They could NOT caramelize the top of this thing. When I sent it back... I told the waiter I did not want anything else, but he tried to offer me the sabayon... but I was not interested. So he went back and tried to make another crème brûlée. As a gift to me..... which I think he actually burnt the top of... or put pepper on... Either way it was still inedible. I don't know what all the hype about this place is... because truthfully there are so many places to sit outside in New York. But I would never go back there... Even if they paid me to go and eat a free meal. The one star was for the company. This restaurant deserves no stars.

homemade noodles with crab meat in a light spicy tomato sauce- so fresh and delicious, love the spicy tomato sauce and the noodles are awesome. grilled chicken breast topped with sliced avocado and black summer truffle served in a brandy cream sauce with sautéed summer vegetables- the sauce is so creamy and addictive, has a hint of caramel to it. truffles are very light and complimented the dish well. very flavorful thinly sliced seared tuna served with a mild tartar sauce and capers- similar to tuna sashimi only thinly sliced with sauce. very fresh ingredients and creative menu with variety. the complimentary cookies, bread sticks and olives were nice. friendly staff and cozy restaurant

Good thin crust pizza! This is my favorite place for pizza because you can enjoy a casual dining in a classy environment. The prices are affordable too. I like their out door sidewalk seats, very relaxing and cozy especially in the summer. You can't go wrong with this place, it's great for all occations.

The last of the overdue Restaurant Week reviews. Came here with two lady friends (sense a trend?) as a goodbye dinner for one who was moving to Chicago. Le sigh. We got a cute table, a bottle of wine, and ordered away. Kudos to the waiter for recommending a wine we really liked, even thought it was definitely on the cheaper side of the list. I had the beef bresaola to start, which was airy and yummy, an followed it up with the "mini" veal. there wasn't really anything mini about it, a full entree is what I got (unexpected but hey, who am I to object to a little more baby cow? goo goo gaga, get in my belly!). Dessert was delicious, chocolate cake with hazelnuts and vanilla ice cream and I ordered a glass of Calvados on the rocks (yum) before we realized that the meal came with a free glass of muscat! Nice touch! Overall, a great meal with good service in a cute restaurant, but nothing really seemed to entirely stand out and make it that 5 star experience. So for now, 4 stars, and perhaps Mezzogiorno will sweep me off my feet another time!

Small pasta pouches filled with cheese and pear OMG! Amazing. A MUST! The ambience is unique, in that the decor looks like a 5th grade school project, at the back of the restaurant anyway. But the place is swanky in its own way. Definetely in a charming area of Soho, and nice to sit outside when the weather is nice. I'll be back just for that plate it was soooo delicious but the portions are not overly filling. The eggplant croquettes with goat cheese and field salad was also delish!!

Didn't really like this restaurant at all. The service was fine, but everything else was mediocre. This restaurant really liked a sense of authenticity: no one spoke Italian in the restaurant except for our table, there were multiple errors on the menu (both in English and Italian), and the dishes were nothing special. Every one of the things we ordered lacked some oomph. If you want to go somewhere with a better ambience, considerably more authenticity and very good Italian food, try Piccola Cucina.

I wanted to like this place fully. Great ambiance, nice looking setup, stylish decor, attentive and friendly staff, but the food didn't hold up it's end of the bargain. $16 lasagna should be fantastic. It should be a bouquet of flavors and textures, but this version was fully bland and mostly tasteless. No amount of salt would save it. I personally wouldn't write this place off completely, but I did leave with a sense of disappointment.

Took my parents here when they were in town visiting. Good atmosphere, quiet enough that you can hear a conversation (or your 70-something parents can hear a conversation), good food, and o.k. prices. Only 3 stars, just because the food was good, but not memorable. That being said, I would go back.

A sunny Friday afternoon, and well-heeled New Yorkers are exiting the 8th Avenue local a block away, chatting earnestly on cell phones, arranging their hot dates. A delivery truck lurches and clanks down Spring Street, honking at the Jersey driver who is probably lost. We sit al fresco, sunglasses set against the piercing glare that's marching west over the Hudson. The table is a clean white surface, waiting for tastes and colors that we order. The vermilion of the Campari and soda offers the first splash of color on the white. Prosciutto di Parma and roasted pears in balsamic reduction promises of color and taste complexity to come. My son has the Penne alla Bisanzio, a simple and fresh tomato reduction and his eyes widen in happy surprise. Normally pesto is his favorite sauce for penne, but at 8 years old he is ready to broaden his horizons. We nod to each other, noting the traffic, noting the leggy model in designer bondage latex crossing in front of us. It's quixotic to imagine Tuscany, it's far too self-consciously SoHo here. The Garganelli with scallops and mushrooms is a real treat, an unctuous and decadent pasta nicely cut with a sharp, crisp Pinot Grigio. My son, finishing his penne and cold glass of milk, reclines slightly in his chair and throws his arm over the back post of his seat, gently twisting his torso and looking around with new eyes. 'So, do you like New York?' I say. "Yeah, I can see why you like it' he muses. 'Let's go find some gelato' I say.

I see quite a few 3-4 star reviews, but this place is a 5 star, given that you know what you should order. So let me go ahead and tell you exactly what. - Calamari saltati con pomodoro, avocado e peperoncino (calamari sautéed with tomato, avocado and red crushed pepper) - Tagliolini allo zafferano con sugo piccante di granchio (thin home made tagliolini with crab meat in a spicy tomato sauce) - Quatro stagioni [pizza] (mozzarella, mushrooms, olives, artichokes, ham) Done.

Came here with my sorority sister for restaurant week and I was really impressed. It's a cute place but we decided to sit outside. The staff was super friendly and came around enough times to make sure things were good. Their pasta pouches filled with cheese and pear - to die for!

Sweet Sausage w/ tomatoes, cannellini beans, garlic, sage - surprisingly delicious (b/c I wouldn't normally pair beans w/ sausage unless it was some sort of stew/soup) and set my expectations super high for the entrees to come... Lasagne: this was just ok, I've definitely had better. The top was crisped up too much and was hard to even cut Wild Boar Ragu: our server was right, the meat was cooked so that it was not game-y but it still wasn't a homerun...wouldn't get this next time. Would I go back? Maybe...just for the amazing apps...

It's an upscale neighborhood Italian place, one that's been in west Soho forever, but this was our first time. On 4th of July weekend the place was quiet and relaxed with few diners. Service was correct, my mixed drink was well prepared, and the food was very good. We shared an artichoke pizza for a first course. It's a thin crust Italian style pizza, very well prepared with good ingredients. Perhaps a touch too much cheese for our taste but that's a small point. For the mains my wife had the mushroom and truffle ravioli. It was delicious, properly cooked al dente. The only drawback, and it is one of our pet peeves, is the powdered parmesan they use instead of the real stuff. I had the lamb chop special which was excellently prepared, with grilled veggies. Both desserts were good, the apple strudel and chocolate hazelnut cake. Not outstanding but certainly better than average. All in all it was a very positive experience, and a place we would come back to when we're in the area.

I have to qualify, I only had two dishes here, so maybe the rest of the food is better. Let's start with location, it's awesome. Cute restaurant, great outdoor seating. I stopped by cause I needed a place to sit and send out a few emails during lunchtime. Had the marghartia pizza and mezzogiorno salad. Pizza was alright, and salad utterly uninspiring. But 3 stars for location.

Soho is a tough neighborhood to find an inexpensive place to eat. I have been here twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. Pros: nice brick oven pizzas. Decent wine list. Great location and pretty dining room. Staff works hard. Cons: everything else on the menu is one notch above the Olive Garden. Reheated gummy pastas with a sprig of parsley. Canned artichokes with a curl of parmesan. Overpriced for the quality of the food. If your with people from out of town, they will love it.

This place is great! I stop in here whenever i'm in NY. The food is amazing and super fresh. I recommend the calamari appetizer, it has avocado and tomato in it. It is fresh zesty and very different. For entrees I have had the grilled seafood platter, and the pasta with spicy crab sauce (just like my mother makes). I have never been here and left without being happy with my meal and the service. Just a word of warning they only take AMEX so bring cash :-)

Tried this place on a Thursday night and found the food to be very good. Had the calamari, lasagna, and handmade noodle with crab and spicy sauce. The calamari was really good. It was sauteed with avocados, tomatoes, lemon, and served with greens. A very refreshing change from the typical fried calamari you find at Italian restaurants. The sauce makes this appetizer exceptionally good with plenty of citrus flavor and a light feel to it. The lasagna and handmade noodles were also good. The portions were just right. Not overwhelming but enough where you feel you're not being ripped off. In short, this is a very good Italian restaurant and if you're around spring street on the west side of soho looking for a dinner place then try this out.

I pretty much have tackled all the "hot spots" in Soho and wanted to try something new. M and I both haven't ever been to Mezzogiorno before, so we decided to come here for our lunch date. M heard their pizza was really good but I didn't really feel like pizza, so I ended up ordering the Tagliolini Allo Zafferano Con Sugo Piccante Di Granchio (thin home made noodles with spicy crab meat and light tomato sauce) I appreciate the home made noodles, but where the hell is the spice at? It wasn't spicy at all, so not sure what they mean by spicy. It was still good, but not good enough where I would come back here again. M ordered from the extended restaurant week menu. Polpettine Di Melanzane Al Caprino Con Insalatina Di Campo (eggplant croquettes with goat cheese and field salad) It was good but not really my cup of tea! Milanesine Con Insalatina Di Campo (mini veal milanese with field salad and chopped tomato) - was M entree but this entree look exactly like M's appetizer. Torta Di Gianduia Con Gelato Alla Vaniglia (hazelnut chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream) - we both took one bite and that was it! Nothing to rave about! The service here sucks, it took them forever to give us our bill.

We had a wonderful meal at Mezzogiorno. We ate early (7:30) for NYC time, so the restaurant was only about 25% full when we got there, but about 90% full by the time we left. Even with that, the noise level was pretty low, and I felt like I had plenty of room. The service was very good, the staff attentive, but not overbearing. I had the Mezzogiorno salad, which was quite good, but I had the Fiocchetti ai tre formaggi e pera for my entre. It was FANTASTIC. I had the same meal in Florence, and it was almost exactly identical. At least as good. The cheese and pear filling was just perfectly combined, and the presentation was lovely. My husband had the Penne alla Bisanzio, which was also outstanding. Overall, fantastic meal.

Another restaurant had lost our reservation so we wound up here on a Friday night - and they were able to take a party of 5 no problem. The place was pretty deserted - bad sign #1. To be fair some of my friends had food they liked - the pappardele with wild boar ragout was well received at our table. But I just can't give a good review since my meal was so very bad. Risotto with broccoli rabe and fontina. I know it's hard to make broccoli rabe right so it isn't too bitter and doesn't ruin a dish - but that's why I count on restaurants to do it right for me ... blech. It was widely agreed that my meal was inedible. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but was surprised the waiter didn't say anything when he took my mostly full plate away. Given that delicious Italian food is plentiful in the neighborhood, don't risk this place.

The squid ink pasta is spicy and delish. I want more. The gnochi and endive salad were on the bland side, but the ingredients were very fresh. Order the pasta fagioli soup if it's on special. They puree in some cream which enriches the flavor, sooo good. Service is spot on and the coffee, perfect. A wonderful place for a romantic dinner or a group outing with friends. Sit by the large windowed wall and people watch as you enjoy your meal.
